- We welcome three new Board members for 2018:
- • JoJo Grove is our Outside Events Chair. JoJo will be introducing our members to new, or tried and true restaurants that have excellent wine cellars offered to us at a discount!
- Steve Greenberg is our Board Secretary. Steve will be keeping all the business items in order, as well as overseeing the election of new Board members next Fall when we will be filling four positions for a 3-year period beginning in 2019.
Please welcome our new Board members when you see them at a wine event. As you are well aware, our club would not function without the stellar volunteers who we are fortunate to have!
Of course, the addition of new Board members means saying farewell to those Board members who completed their 3-year term. I am very fortunate that our past president, Janet Locklar, is still very active as she was a great leader for the Board last year. Norm Pitts turned over his steady hand as our Treasurer to Nancy Hancock for her last year on the Board. Kathy Hunsaker’s handling of the Membership duties was turned over to Maribeth Chappell, also for her last year on the Board. We very much miss the input of Janet, Norm, and Kathy and are grateful for the great job they did for the Wine Club.
Lynne Petersen continues as Vice President, as well as the Kiva Events Chair. Lynne has selected diverse themes for this year, to continue to introduce members to wines they may not have experienced before. She works closely with Kelly Stewart (Quench Fine Wines), who educates us about the wines selected at our Kiva Club Tasting Events. Lynne also chairs the committee that puts together the Annual Christmas Party, which will be held on Friday, November 30th this year.
Those members who were fortunate to attend the High-End Wine and Food Pairing that was recently held, hopefully noticed the efforts that the Kiva staff extends to make our events an enjoyable experience for us all. We were able to enjoy the culinary skills of our new chef (Franco), with Fred overseeing the details for us. As we communicated late last year, we have had an increase in the overall cost for all Kiva Club events. The staff finally received a small increase in their hourly salary, as well as a 20% service charge. As you also know, the corkage fee was increased to $5 a bottle, which is in line with what the other clubs in the greater Phoenix area are paying.
The Wine Club has some great tastings coming up, outside dining events, as well our monthly home socials. I look forward to meeting more of our members at these events, and I hope you have as much fun at these events as I have in the past!
Cheers!
Diane Vetter
Let’s Go Places – Jojo Grove

Coming on as the Director of Outside Events has been an interesting time so far!
Starting off on with our first event on February 21, we decided to have the dinner at Bottegga Pizzeria Ristorante in Glendale due to requests by many members. The month turned challenging with many cancellations due to sickness! Our list started out at 22 and by the time the evening came, we had four couples! But, we still had a fabulous time!
The food was delicious! We had a selection of three entrees but everyone chose the seafood pasta with mussels, shrimp and scallops. The wines were a wonderful deal at 30% off bottles or by the glass. We couldn’t have had better service and the friendships made that night were the highlight of the event. Join some Trilogy friends and give Bottegga a try, we highly recommend them!
Our March event was at Off the Cuff, another suggested venue by many members! We had a choice of slow roasted brisket, or chicken cordon bleu. Kelly Stewart was there to show us the different wines he had chosen, they were perfect and he sampled us with each one! A nice surprise to the night! The food was delicious, the service was great. The weather was beautiful, and we sat outside in the courtyard. There were 24 of us, and everyone has emailed or called to express how much they enjoyed it!
Vogue Bistro is the selected venue for April 24th. It is always a welcomed venue by everyone so the menu details will follow soon. We hope you can join us!
We are also hoping to have an overnight event in Sedona/Cottonwood with a tasting and casual dinner at Page Springs Cellars, so stay tuned!
Cheers!

Kiva Events – Lynne Peterson

This past quarter we have had three very successful tastings. In January we had 120 members attend a tasting of a selection of Italian wines. In February again 120 members tried wines from both Washington and Oregon. March was one of our food and wine pairing events where 70 members tried some delicious small plates prepared by our new Chef Fernando. Some higher-end wines were well received and enjoyed by all who attended.
Next quarter we will taste wines from the Central Coast of California in April. In May we will take a European Adventure into wines from all over Europe. June will be a treat with patio wines for the hot Arizona months ahead.
We will not be having Kiva Club events in July or August so stock up at the next three events!
Cheers!
Lynn Peterson

Home Socials – Jan Trella

The 2018 Wine Club home socials started the year with events held at 10 homes during January through March. The weather was more like spring in January and February with most of the attendees spending the evenings on the lovely patios of our gracious hosts. March was not so kind to us as the 20% chance of rain chose the hours of the socials to bless us with needed rain. Our hosts were gracious and utilized both patios and inside the homes to host their guests.
We have three homes scheduled for both April and May (with one home each month in Trilogy West) and only one home scheduled for June (the second home had to cancel). We will again be going dark in July and August. We hope to start up again with home socials in September, but that will only be possible if we have three hosts for the social to be held on September 8th. If you would be willing to host in June or September 2018, please get in touch with me at 623-910-0633 or TWCHomeSocial@trilogywineclub.com. I would like to have one home each of those months in Trilogy West.
Just as a reminder, the Home Socials are what the name says—a social occasion sponsored by the wine club for wine club members where the emphasis is on having a good time over some nice wines and appetizers with the goal of meeting and getting to know people other than those we see at numerous social occasions. As a host, you will be asked to request two couples to help you with the greeting of guests and opening the bottles of wine. We will also try to assign at least one board member to your home to assist you. Other guests will be assigned randomly to the homes.
As more homes are being built in Trilogy West, we have more members joining from Trilogy West and the ideal would be to have one home host the social in Trilogy West each month. This is not meant to separate the members, but some have expressed concern with driving on Vistancia to get from one section to the other. This is something that was not envisioned when the Wine Club was formed but it is now the way things are because of no interior road connecting the two areas. We want to make sure that when assignments are made, you are willing to go where you are assigned. If you live in the original Trilogy and do not wish to attend socials in Trilogy West, please email me so that I can note that on the membership list. Also, if you are a resident of Trilogy West let me know your feeling about traveling over to Trilogy for the home socials or if you want to stay in TW, as long as we have a host home there.
One final note, if you receive your home assignment and then find you cannot attend, email me so that I can note it on the guest list—don’t just be a no-show. We averaged more than 11% no-shows in January through March.
Cheers,
Jan Trella

Crowd Pleasers from our Chefs

Whether they are employed by Trilogy or they are our neighbors, there are many fabulous chefs within this Trilogy community. Each quarter we will share a recipe that has been a Crowd Pleaser at a TWC event. This quarter, full-time resident Alan McAlister is sharing his recipe for Mushroom Tartlets. When Alan brings these beauties to home socials, they quickly disappear so sadly, his sweet wife Janice never gets leftovers to take home! We hope you enjoy!
Mushroom Tartlets
2 tablespoons butter
8 oz. Portobello mushrooms minced coarse
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon onion minced fine
3-4 cloves garlic, minced fine
½ cup heavy whipping cream
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
½ package Pepperidge Farm puff pastry
2 tablespoons butter
8 oz. Portobello mushrooms minced coarse
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon onion minced fine
3-4 cloves garlic, minced fine
½ cup heavy whipping cream
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
½ package Pepperidge Farm puff pastry
- Thaw ½ package of puff pastry, about 40 minutes
- Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees
- Melt butter in large skillet; add mushrooms, onion and garlic. Cook over medium heat for about 10 or more minutes
- Add 1 tablespoon flour to the mushroom mixture and stir well to blend into the mushroom mixture
- Add cream and parmesan to the mushroom mixture, stir well and simmer several minutes until thickened, remove from heat
- Unfold pastry and roll to a 10”X10” square. Cut pastry into 25 two-inch squares. Place one square of pastry dough into a mini-muffin pan. Corners of the pastry dough will be above the pan.
- Spoon a generous teaspoon of the mushroom mixture into each piece of pastry dough in the muffin pan. If there is leftover mushroom mixture, spread evenly throughout the muffin cups.
- Bake on center rack for about 10 minutes or until some edges are browned, remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes
- Using a dinner knife, remove each tartlet from the pan and place on a serving dish. A garnish of chopped parsley is optional.
