The year is already zipping along faster than I would care to admit. June’s heat arrived, and I noticed more neighbors heading out of town for short, and long, vacations from the heat. With the continued development in the general area, our local restaurants and stores are not as quiet as they have been in years past. I am finding that we are really enjoying the quiet of early evening, with a nice glass of summer wine to offset the warmth of the day.

Thinking of “summer wines,” for those who enjoyed the variety of wines we presented at the June Kiva Club Wine Tasting; I hope you also enjoyed the change in the “mini bites” plate. Our goal was to offer more variety that still served the function of enhancing the flavor of the wine.

As we did last year, we will have no functions during the months of July and August. Between the heat for Home Socials, and the wide variety of vacation plans of our members; it just makes sense to take a break until September.

With the year now half over, we are looking forward to the changes that will come in 2019. The Wine Club Board consists of nine members, each serving a three-year term. This year we have the unusual need to replace four Board members.
We are asking for members to step-up and offer their time to join the Board so we can continue to offer the fun variety of functions for all members. Volunteers must be a member of the Wine Club with general computer knowledge (such as simple Excel, and willing to learn applications such as Punchbowl). The openings we will have for 2019 are:

•    Secretary: Responsible for the monthly Board meeting minutes, maintains the bylaws, and occasional e-mail blasts to all members are some of the responsibilities. Requires the use of Word and uploading of minutes to the shared Google Drive for club records.

•    Kiva Club Events Chairperson: Responsible for the coordination of Wine Club events held at the Kiva Club. This includes the Kiva Club Wine Tasting, any food and wine pairing (generally in March), and the annual holiday party. This position works with a committee of additional volunteers, plus works closely with the wine wholesaler, Club President, and Kiva Staff. Excel is used frequently (using an already prepared format).

•    IT Chairperson: Responsible for upkeep of the club’s laptop, and to maintain items that are required to keep the club’s information well organized, and secure. This includes knowledge of Windows (including virus management, installation procedures, updates), the use of Chrome browser, including management of multiple Google profiles, Gmail, and password management. Frequently used applications include Gmail, Chrome, Punchbowl, and Google Groups.

•    Membership Chairperson: Maintain wine club master list of members, including adding new members and changes to members’ information. Process new and renewal wine club memberships throughout the year. Excel is used for the master list of members.

Please contact us with a brief resume on which position would be of interest to you for 2019. Elections are held in October, and we spend time with each person to ensure a smooth transition. Please send all inquiries to TWCpresident@Trilogywineclub.com and/or call me at 623-215-3063.

In addition to our need to fill upcoming Wine Club Board positions, we are in the midst of developing a short survey that will be sent to all members. Our goal is to solicit feedback so that we can provide the activities that are most desired by our members.

I hope everyone enjoys their summer and we look forward to seeing you at the September Home Social and Kiva Wine Tasting.

Cheers!
Diane Vetter

The weather has certainly changed, and the dog days of summer are upon us….but that did not stop a fantastic wine dinner at Amuse Bouche on June 19th.  We had a great crowd of 51 who signed up!

The new owner/chef, John Bossmann, has taken the old space, enlarged it, added a bar (they now have a liquor license) and turned it into a white-tablecloth restaurant.

The dinner was awesome. We were offered a delightful Frommage Fort, which was a blend of cheeses on a baquette. He also served a lobster roll salad which was a lobster salad served in the most delicious warm bun! The entrée selections were superb; Coq au Vin, Pan Seared Crispy Salmon, and Petite Cowboy Ribeye. Each dish was done to perfection, everyone commented on how wonderful they were.

A delicious apple tartin with vanilla ice cream was served to us as an added bonus which was an added bonus to us. He really out-did himself to show his commitment to serving fine food.

Kelly Stewart was there to talk about each pairing with the dinner selections, they were delicious and well paired. He is always an added addition to our dinners with his knowledge and wit! It was a fun evening, with everyone really enjoying this improved spot.

Everything from the servers detailed attention to all the guests. They were on top of their game from filling water glasses to taking dishes away without any interruption of their fine service. John is a very nice, polite guy who showed his attention to every detail of each plate served. Kudos to John and his staff at Amuse Bouche.

If you missed the dinner, do yourself a favor, go to  Amuse Bouche! It is a wonderful place to dine, located at 7058 W Bell Rd #104, Surprise. They are also open for brunch on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Watch their website (www.amuseboucheaz.com) for weekly specials and special-course dinners. Amuse Bouche has a fine wine, as well as cocktails.

We will not be doing any events in July and August, but we will be back in September, for another great dining event, details to come!
Enjoy your summer!

Cheers!
Jojo Grove

Well, we know we are half way through the year by the weather and the wines we want to drink. Cool and crisp wines are the go to wines this time of year. In April we tasted wine from the Central Coast of California. We tasted Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gamay, Pinot Noir, a red blend  and a Cabernet Franc. In May we travelled through Europe with wines from France,Italy and Spain.  We tasted a Cote du Rhône, a Barbara d’Asti, a Maremma Toscana, a Priorat and a Cotes de Bordeaux. June we choose wine for summer barbecues and pool side.  We featured a Albariño, a Pinot Grigio, a Cuvée, a Rose’, a Pinot Noir, and two Red Blends.

In June we also changed up the food. In addition to cheese and crackers we had several delightful small bites. We will continue to add various small bites through the fall.

In September we hope to have a winemaker, in October we will have some higher-end wines and in November holiday and gift wines. This year our annual Holiday Party will be on November 30th due to the schedule of Thaddeus Rose. We hope to see you at our fall events. Enjoy your summer-time wines!

Cheers!
Lynn Peterson

This year is just flying by.  We just finished the 2nd quarter of 2018 and are now into our least favorite time of the year—not sure if it is because of the excess heat or the fact that the wine club takes a couple months off from activities.

We had a very successful April, May and June in the Home Social Area of the Trilogy Wine Club.  I would like to thank our hosts Joe Brimacombe & Rennae Ward, Ed & Betty Lewis, and Dottie & Jim Wanebo for April, Tracy Stansberry & Linda Reese, Ron & Joyce Goergen, and John & Edie Theiss for May and Rose & Rich Fenstermaker, John & Lisa Magrane, and Jack & Laura Dreyfus for June.

Planning for home socials is an interesting job.  As chair we keep records from past years and can usually see a trend in how many attend each month and try to schedule the number of homes accordingly.  This year June really threw me for a loop.  We expected 90 attendees and after 1 day I had reached the 90 mark. A special thank you to the Dreyfus’ for answering my last-minute plea to host in June and I know the 37 people who were able to attend because of you also send you a thank you.

Hosts have been scheduled for the remaining 4 months of home socials this year and I have started filling in the 2019 calendar with hosts.  I will be contacting those who haven’t hosted in the last 3 years in September to get you scheduled for 2019.  If you have a particular month that you would like to host you can email me to get on the calendar before that month is gone (April 2019 is already full).

Finally,  I keep records for the home socials and we do have some statistics that are a little disappointing. In April we had 27% cancellations or no shows, May was 15% and June was 9%. This is especially disappointing to the hosts who thought they were having 44 guests and only had 30.  I’m hoping this fall we’ll continue the trend of lower cancellations and no-shows.

Have a great summer and we’ll see you at the next home social on September 8th.

Cheers,
Jan Trella

Who doesn't like fresh fruit dipped in cream cheese and marshmallow cream dip with their favorite flavoring?
We've all had it but Trilogy resident Barb Porter kicked it up a notch at a recent Wine Club Home Social when she added Kahlua to her dip. We've also been told Baily's Irish Cream is another alternative. Barb says 1/3 cup of Kahlua with 8 oz. of cream cheese and 1 jar of Kraft marshmallow will have your guests using spoons to get the dip out when the fruit is gone!
