Fall is officially here and I hope you survived the monsoon season smoothly with little damage. Many of our part-time members are returning to Trilogy and we are excited to have started up our monthly wine events.
If you had the opportunity to travel to fun locations and taste a wine that was new to you, please share details with us. I know if you send something to Vickie Mullins, she would be able to add it to our next newsletter. All of us enjoy new recommendations!
Our monthly Kiva Club Wine Tastings are scheduled for September 30th (Paul Hobbs winery), then we are planning for October 28th, and thinking of gift wines for November 11th. Home Socials started back up early September with robust attendance. It sure was fun to see so many people in town for that gathering.
Mark your calendar for Friday, November 30th. Our annual Holiday Party will be held that evening. Tickets will be sold starting November 1st. Thaddeus Rose and his band will be providing the entertainment. We know how talented they are! It will be a very fun evening.
Coming soon to your e-mail inbox will be the ballot for the 2019 Wine Club Board. We appreciate the individuals who have stepped forward and volunteered. As you all know, none of the events could happen without volunteers!
May you all enjoy the beautiful weather that will be coming our way!
Cheers!

Summer is officially over!! Well, not quite over for us Arizonians, but soon ... very soon!
Our September dinner at Saigon Kitchen was a great success! It has been one of those hidden gems but now has become a favorite for many. The food was delicious and so fresh, the service was exceptional for a party of 41 guests. I have had many compliments on how nice everything was.
The menu started with a Crispy Pork Eggroll appetizer, served with lettuce wrappings and a house-made sauce. The entrée choices were Saigon Chicken Stir Fry with fresh vegetables, shitake mushrooms, and bok choy, Garlic Noodles with Lemongrass Shrimp, and Shaken Beef, a filet mignon over carmelized onions served with rice.
Each meal started with the Saigon Kitchen signature house soup and salad which were light and delightful. Dessert was a delicious Chocolate Mousse.
We were offered signature martinis, cocktails and select wines from their all-day happy hour menu! It was a wonderful evening with everyone enjoying the food and the company!
There won’t be an October dinner, but we are working on one for the first week in November. Details to come!
Enjoy the coming cooler days and evenings, see you at our next event.
Cheers!

Kiva Events – Lynne Peterson

Here we are, almost in the last quarter of the year. Not only has the year flown by but my past three years on the Trilogy Wine Club board as Chairperson for the Kiva Club events is almost over. I encourage more people to sign up for the board as it is a fun and rewarding experience.
As I write this article we are getting ready for our September event featuring wines from Paul Hobbs various wineries. This event will have Maria Brown, Southwest Regional Sales Manager for Paul Hobbs Wines. On October 28th we will have a Napa vs Sonoma wine tasting, November 11th will be our final tasting of the year and will feature gift and holiday wines.
Our annual Holiday Dinner Dance will be held early this year on Friday November 30th due to scheduling of the band. Tickets will go on sale November 1st. Watch your emails for further details in the next few weeks.
Cheers!

Home Socials – Jan Trella

It is hard to believe we are at the beginning of the 4th quarter of 2018. It seems like we were just starting the year.
The Home Socials took a break for July and August and we just had our September social on September 8th. I want to give a big thank you to our wonderful hosts for September—John and Wendy Gallup, Ken and Jane Pepiot, and Mike and Jackie Urdahl. They all volunteered when I sent out an appeal last April because we did not have any September hosts. The wonderful part was that they were all first-time hosts and when they saw the temperature forecast for that night I think they all had some trepidation as to where they would put all the people. It is amazing but they all said it went smoothly and things worked out. The best part was they said they would be happy to do it again. Thank you so much.
I started the annual planning for hosts for 2019 in September. I went through our records and emailed those who have never hosted or last hosted in 2015. One of the requirements for participating in the home socials is that you agree to host about once every 3 years (looking at my records with 345 people signed up for home socials and needing roughly 36 hosts a year, it comes out now at about once every 4 and a half years). I filled 23 spots for next year but still need 13 more. If you received an email, please sign up for a 2019 spot. Months that hosts are still needed are: 2 for January, 1 for May, 3 for June, 2 for September, 1 for October, 4 for November.
We all enjoy the home socials and they could not be held without the membership. I always have people who step up without even being asked to host because they enjoy it so much. If you feel that you can’t host because you have a smaller home, we assign guests according to home size. I have a chart which shows the ideal number of guests per model and then a number 15 percent higher (due to our cancellation and no-show statistics). I will then ask you how many you would feel comfortable having. It is amazing but the number the first-time hosts think they can handle is lower than our number but after they host they usually say they could have had more. Some say they can’t commit 10 months in advance—we are all at that time of life and people do have to cancel (that is why we have a list of those who love to host and we can ask on short notice).
Hosting is easy! The host supplies the home, paper products/plastic wear for the food, water, ice and containers to put the wine in, and trash containers to make clean up easy. Not all guests sit at the same time so if there are 40 assigned to your home, you don’t have to have 40 seats. If you aren’t sure how to set things up, I’m happy to do a walk-through and make suggestions for the best flow.
The best weather of the year is just around the corner and I’m looking forward to seeing you at the socials in October, November, and December when we can enjoy the beautiful patios of our gracious hosts.
Cheers,
Jan Trella

Do You Like To Take Pictures?
We are looking for a few folks who attend Trilogy Wine Club events to spend a few minutes taking pictures to archive the friends, fun, food and wine when we gather. This is not a big commitment, you won't have to do it at every event you attend, just when you'd like to. No fancy cameras are required, cell phone photos are perfect. If you are interested, please contact Vickie Mullins at vickie@mullinscreative. "Smile!"
